Mkaiwawi Mwakaba

Mkaiwawi Mwakaba is an accomplished filmmaker with 15+ years of industry experience as an editor, director, writer. With a BA in Communication (Film & TV), she’s earned accolades for her editing work, including Kenya’s Oscar-entry feature film “Nairobi Half Life”. As an alumnus of Berlinale Talents and Durban Talents, she continues to refine her craft. Mkaiwawi’s diverse background and her extensive experience across different aspects of filmmaking position her as a visionary director, ready to bring compelling narratives to life on the small screen. She is keen on using storytelling as a tool to educate, advocate for change and to influence narratives and is interested in projects centered around women’s issues, children, and the African continent. 

Away from work, she enjoys the arts, travel, and mentoring young filmmakers through her film training initiative for children dubbed “Access Hollywood”. She is also Co-Founder of the African Female Filmmakers Collective (AFFC) whose mandate is to create opportunities for networking, collaborations and to empower African women through training and mentorship programmes.
